Brand Ethos

HARRIET KJELLMAN, an eponymous brand, is an evolving visualisation of inspiration, aesthetics and values explored and realised through clothing and accessories for women.

Brand aesthetics

The brand aesthetics derives from lifetime of exposure to Finnish design - naturally integrated into everyday life through sophisticated objects and environments, the simplicity of the materials, and design adapting to peoples’ needs through function. These design values continue to be explored by utilising the personal interests in British craftsmanship and fashion culture.

Sustainability

Fundamental effortlessness is the foundation of the brand design process - we create clothing and accessories that thrive to be sustainable through design, make, the neutrality of the colour palette and materials. We create discerning design essentials.

Local production

The brand thrives to enforce sustainable and ethical practices to have a positive environmental and social impact.

One of the core values for the brand is the quality of the product, whilst maintaining the aspiration to support UK businesses and craftsmanship. Upholding these sustainable values has led to focusing working with industry professionals in the Midlands area and using material suppliers based in UK where possible.

Products are mainly made-to-order in Nottingham either in-house or by local manufacturers with attention to detail and craftsmanship producing a high quality product.

Material sourcing

We use carefully selected materials that fit our values and product needs. A selection of designs are manufactured using stock material that enables us to commit to offer consistency in our range, and others using high quality surplus material from the industry for more limited edition designs.

We manipulate our fabrics as little as possible to reduce the environmental impact of our products and processes. We use loomstate un-dyed cotton for our ecru denim products, or dyed denim for colour options, however we do not create washes on our garments. Through natural wear and tear, our customers garments will tell their own stories through the fading, tearing, thinning, coloration and other manipulation.

We do wash our dyed denim prior to cutting or use pre-washed denim to minimise colour bleeding.

We only use 100% cotton for denim to maximise the lifespan of the garment. Some surplus materials can include elastane.

Inclusive fashion

Made-to-order production enables us to offer inclusivity by catering to our clients needs and visions at a more personal level. The brand offers inclusive sizing to welcome all customers. Due to made-to-order production, we welcome basic garment alterations, i.e. sleeve or leg length, or combining two sizes in one garment to create the perfect fit, i.e. narrow waist with wider hips. More demanding orders may to considered as bespoke orders.
